Simple configurations

Rene Starmans, company manager, applauds simplicity and unity when it comes to register data from field services. That is the exact reason why configuration of the board computers was kept relatively simple. "Our goal was a crystal clear project administration. To achieve that, you must purely focus on functionality; you choose those things necessary. Nothing more, nothing less." Says Starmans. Starmans' choice for Fleetlogic's board computer systems, with an additional Fleetlogic Data terminal, was made because with this comes with an input system. With this system you can easily retrieve data such as project numbers and the number of people working on that project. After a project has finished you can not only retrieve data per project but also per person.

Irik Dak's Fleet

Fleetlogic's board computer system is used on the entire fleet. "Most vehicles contain two to four people when driving to a project" says Starmans. "On site, it can happen that one person is working on more than one project at the same time. All of this can be registered on the board computer." The board computer is also used by the service department of the company. Starmans: "Accurate registration of working hours and travelling time requires a watertight administration. With this system it is all neatly recorded as such."

Project Administration

With the use of the board computer the emphasis and focus lies on project registration and project administration. Our target was to increase the level of efficiency through a better field service registration. That target has been more than achieved according to Starmans. While going through the results of the last two years, Starmans says "It is clear that our field services achieve higher scores than before. And I am not talking about just a few percent." Manual input is limited, and this is to the advantage of the entire project administration. Another big advantage, according to Starmans, is that discussions on working- and travel hours is a thing of the past. "Without that watertight registration, a discussion on working hours or travelling time was not uncommon. Now, with the use of the board computers there is no discussion, much to the satisfaction of the entire company."

Microsoft Access

All of the board computer's data is further edited in a Ms Access database. This was designed by the administration dept. of Irik Dak. "After the data has been retrieved from Fleetlogic's board computers, it is checked manually and when necessary edited by our project leaders. In case of overtime, the project leader decides how much of it is paid to each employee." Says Starmans.

A link to Project Computerisation

Next to this, Irik Dak in association with Fleetlogic, has had meetings with Gilde Software, who have especially designed software for the roofing industry. "Our next step is to transfer data retrieved from Fleetlogic's board computers directly into our software, supplied by Gilde." Says Starmans. With connecting Gilde to Fleetlogic, Starmans now has a clear objective in mind. According to Starmans, there are endless possibilities in Registration. But not everything is useful. The key is clear and simple registration of working- and travelling hours.
